After a traumatic brain injury in 1980, Ralph, a neurologist, was unable to work for more than a year. In late 1981, he became a pioneer in Neurobehavior; in his training, his thinking, his practice. He treated the severely brain injured, and he listened; to his patients, to the families, to the healers, who would guide his patients to their new life. This book tells his story, and theirs.
His journey started with a Neurobehavior Fellowship at UCLA with Dr Frank Benson and Dr. Jeff Cummings. Completing that, he made a leap to Rhode Island, joining the faculty at Brown University Program in Medicine, becoming the first Neurobehavioral clinical provider at Brown and Butler Hospital. He met his wife Joyce, an RN at Butler, and after nine years in Providence they made a leap to Houston, Texas. Ralph joined the Neurobehavioral Institute of Houston, and the University of Texas Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery. In 2020, he completed his decades long career to focus on his outpatients.
Ralph was joyous and thankful for his second life. He nourished his love of horses by having two of his own on his small ranch in Washington on the Brazos, Texas, where he lived with his adoring wife Joyce.
This is the only book we shall see from Ralph Lilly. Sadly Ralph passed on October 10th, 1991 at the age of 85, three months after contracting Covid, the only hurdle he could not clear.
