Book Three in the Terran Incognita Series

A near-future thrillers with a cosmic twist.

A Hard Left is a high-velocity fusion of techno-thriller and first-contact sci‑fi, the explosive third novel in Paul McGrath’s Terran Incognita Series.

Russian disinformation masterminds and a ruthless Texas tech billionaire are about to unleash a “data vacuum cleaner” that can rip through the world’s financial systems—and hand Moscow unprecedented power. Deep underground in Virginia, a vanished prisoner suddenly reappears in a different body, forcing the FBI to reopen the most bizarre case in its history. And at the center of it all are two off-the-books Xylodonian Guardians, hiding in plain sight as a small-town Mississippi couple, quietly using alien tech to freeze militias, topple traffickers, and derail mass killers before they strike.

As FBI agents start connecting impossible events—from a sex-slave compound in Idaho to a congressional hearing where everyone mysteriously “stopped”—the hunters and the hunted are set on a collision course that spans West Texas bunkers, St. Petersburg troll farms, and secret bases far beyond Earth.

Smart, sharp, and almost plausible, A Hard Left delivers cutting-edge cyber intrigue, dark humor, and heart near-future thrillers with a cosmic twist.

Carla Baranauckas, journalist

“A Hard Left is an electrifying, news-savvy thriller that feels ripped from tomorrow’s headlines. With Anton and Ellie—two seemingly ordinary schoolteachers who are anything but—at its heart, the novel blends cyber warfare, human trafficking, disinformation campaigns, and global power plays into a story that is both imaginative and unsettlingly plausible. Bold in scope and fearless in its themes, it fuses investigative realism with speculative intrigue, asking what happens when those sworn to observe humanity decide they must save it instead.”

Burke Watson, former Houston Chronicle journalist

“Paul McGrath’s newest novel in the Left series gives readers a fast-paced story spun on a global scale as interstellar castaways Anton-7 and Juleetha-6 use their advanced technology to unravel an international cybercrime network while maintaining their guise as schoolteachers in a small Southern town. With his deft storytelling and wry humor, McGrath makes it hard to lay this book down and turn out the lights.”

Shauna Lewis, Content strategist and editor

“In A Hard Left, Anton and Ellie have settled into the quiet, small-town life they have come to love in Mississippi — teaching, walking their rescue dog, and sending routine surveillance reports back to their home planet. But as cyberwarfare spreads and corruption deepens, they are forced out of the shadows once again. Thought-provoking and impossible to put down, the novel blends a heartfelt story of love, family, and friendship with a bold confrontation of some of the darkest forces shaping our world today.”
